Meet the Associate Directors
Hello,
My name is Lindsey Potter, and I am one of the Associate Directors here at the Alexander School of Early Learning. I have worked in the field of Early Childhood Education for over 12 years. I started in this field with just a high school education, earned my CDA in 2014 and now hold an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Before becoming an Associate Director, I was a Lead Infant Teacher and more recently, a Lead Preschool Teacher. I enjoy working with families and children, and love being a part of seeing the children reach their milestones. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family. Our time is usually spent on a soccer field or camping out in nature on the weekends.
Hello,
My name is Melissa Haus and I’m an Associate Director at The Alexander School of Early Learning. I’m a proud graduate of the University of Mary Washington and have nineteen years of experience in managing youth programming. My career path started as a preschool Sunday School teacher at a local Korean church and grew into leading others in and out of the classroom. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and gardening.
Meet the Owner
Hello,
My name is Amanda Short, and I am the Owner, Operator, and Center Director for the Alexander School of Early Learning. I have worked in the field of Early Childhood Education for over 22 years. Starting out with just a high school diploma, I currently hold a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Classroom Behavior Management. Before receiving my M.Ed. in 2015, I received my Associate’s in Education in 2003, my Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2005, and my International Montessori Teaching Diploma in 2012. I have also recently pursued a second Associate’s degree in Business Administration, along with an Accounting Certificate.
Early in my career, I worked for a local premier childcare company holding the following titles:
- Toddler Room Aide
- Lead Toddler Teacher
- School Age Camp Coordinator
- Evening Supervisor
- Site Director
- Center Director
- Corporate Trainer
- School Age Field Director
- District Director
In May 2018, I stepped down as District Director to pursue my dream of owning and operating my own preschool. In October 2018, The Alexander School’s doors opened.
I often say to my families that I have not only taught children, but I also have taught, mentored, and supported teachers in their own development over the years. I worked hard to obtain National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation for the school and know first-hand what high-quality care and education look like. While the school is no longer NAEYC accredited, we still adhere to their standards, and we have chosen to pursue Cognia accreditation. I support all my teachers in their use of developmentally appropriate practices along with a curriculum that is supported by current research. I have a passion for the Early Childhood Field and am very proud of the work we do. We strive to provide play-based learning experiences daily that foster intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth for each individual child in our care!
